Dressing for the fall season is my absolute favorite! The weather is a little bit cooler so you can wear pants and sweaters comfortably, but you don’t have to pile on the clothes to stay warm (which inevitably makes me feel like a marshmallow). Whenever this season rolls around, I find myself scouring the magazines and searching the web for a list of the latest trends. Most of the time, all I can find are a bunch of pieces that are completely irrelevant to me and my lifestyle leaving me feeling discouraged. I want a list of the top 10 pieces I should buy that I can mix and match for a well-rounded wardrobe and that won’t break the bank. As you can expect, I couldn’t find such a list so I created my own. Add these 10 items to your wardrobe this fall to keep you on trend all season long:
- Leopard Mules 2. Teddy Coat 3. Captain’s Hat 4. Faux-Leather Leggings 5. Chain Bag 6. Plaid Blazer 7. Gucci Belt (faux or real) 8. Sock Booties 9. Moto Jacket 10. Suede Skirt
Leopard Mule
This shoe combines two big trends in one: leopard and mules. Leopard is considered a neutral in the fashion/design world so it can be paired with anything. Remember this Instagram post? I mixed leopard with plaid for a really interesting look that I absolutely love. Mules are also one of the hottest shoe styles this season. They’re easy to slip on, can be dressy or casual, and are a great way to add quick, easy style to your look.
Teddy Coat
The teddy coat is one of the newest trends to emerge this fall season. It has hit the stores hard and is one of the hottest jacket trends for fall. Most of the time, you’ll see it in a camel color, but I have also seen black, ivory, and even a light pink version. So pretty! I just ordered this one and can’t wait to wear it with a pair of skinny jeans for an effortless look.
Captain’s Hat
The panama and fedora hats are slowly fading and the newest trend to hit the hat world is the captain hat. I remember this was big in the early 2000s and honestly, it’s taken me a minute to get on board with it again. Slowly but surely, the captains hat has grown on me and it is such a fun way to instantly pull together your look. Put on jeans and a simple tee and it can look boring, but top it with a captain’s hat and you’re on trend in a snap!
Faux-Leather Leggings
These faux-leather moto leggings in particular have been everywhere this season! You can see them on me in this Instagram post. I have already purchased three of these leggings that’s how much I love them! I always laugh when I see them in stores because when you hold them up, they look like they’d fit my 8 year old daughter. But believe me, once you squeeze yourself into them, you’ll never want to take them off. They suck you in in all the right places and the high-waist means you’ll never have a muffin top! Hallelujah!
Chain Bag
The chain bag is big this season. I just purchased this one and it is absolutely beautiful. I love the quilted leather and the gold chain link strap. It’s so sophisticated and classic, but with a little edge. The cult favorite at the moment is this Gucci bag, but that’s out of my budget at the moment. 🙂 We can all use a new bag come fall season, so I have gathered a handful of my favorites below. All of them are on trend, but not too trendy to where you’ll want to get rid of it come spring.
Plaid Blazer
Plaid is, dare I say, the biggest trend for fall 2018. Did you see my post last week with some of my favorite plaid pieces for fall? Plaid is a very timeless trend, but it’s especially trendy this season. The plaid blazer is a piece that will instantly pull together any look. It can be paired with anything from jeans and a tee, a pencil skirt and a blouse, or even a leather mini skirt for date night. So, when in doubt, add a plaid blazer!
Gucci Belt
This cult favorite belt has been around for a little while now and it is still going strong (I’m wearing mine in two photos above). The double G belt is so hot that you can find lookalikes everywhere. I grabbed this one and have been very happy with it. I also plan on picking up a skinnier version that I can wear over my dresses for fall. Accessories always help tie an outfit together and this belt is the perfect way to complete your look.
Sock Booties
I was a little “iffy” about this trend at first, but now I’m obsessed. I always thought they looked so good on everyone else, but didn’t think it was the right shoe for my body. Well, I am a changed woman! I recently bought these ones and I can’t stop wearing them. I have a hard time with booties in general, because I am only 5’4″ and I feel like they always make me look short. Well, these sock booties hit just under the calf, which makes for a beautiful, leg-lengthening look. Trust me, if you haven’t tried these on yet, you need to. Another plus about them is that they are equally as great to pair with pants!
Moto Jacket
Wearing a leather moto jacket is a surefire way to be on trend this season. I already purchased two and wear one of them almost everyday. It is such a flattering style and fits every body type. This jacket will tie together any look you wear and make you feel like a million bucks! My all time favorite moto jacket is this one with a removable hood. It’s amazing and comes in three beautiful colors! The hoodie makes the jacket a bit casual, but you also have the option to undo the snaps and remove it. Two styles in one? Yes please!
Suede Skirt
Last but not least, the suede skirt. This piece will be a staple in your wardrobe this fall. You can wear it with every single item I’ve already listed above! Most of the stores are selling the suede skirt in a mini skirt style, but you can grab one in whatever length you feel most comfortable in. The suede skirt is classic, simple, and chic. Everything The Style Drive Thru stands for!
All of these pieces are sure to keep you on trend this fall season. There are endless options for mixing and matching too! If you had to pick your favorite trend above, which one would it be? Comment below and let me know!
